In order to understand the full depth of Kate's thought process, I must back up a week or so first. Sometime last week (I didn't think much of it at the time), Kate asked me to guess which of her fingers she liked the best. After expressing to her that I was completely stumped, she proceeded to innocently "flip me the bird" as she exclaimed, "THIS one!" I gave her a quick lesson about how, even though it's just another finger in the lineup, when THAT finger is the only one you point up to someone, it can be mean or rude to the other person. That was the end of that.
Fast forward to tonight...
While I was singing the usual set of bedtime songs, Kate raised her hand (did I mention that she loves school?) to ask me a very important question. Her question was as follows:
"Mama, if you lived in a house all alone and I lived in a house all alone, and I held up THIS finger (making sure to hold up all five fingers equally but pointing to her middle finger with the pointer from the other hand), would it mean that I don't like myself?"
1. How do you answer that?
2. What else is she still thinking about weeks later?
so cute! i miss that little girl!
